The U.S. effort to catch up with China’s vaccine distribution drive in developing countries got off to a rocky start on Monday when the embassy in the Caribbean island state of Trinidad and Tobago announced on Twitter that it would donate a total of 80 vials of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to the local government (upper photo).
The absurdly small number of jabs donated sparked many jokes on social media, where a number of people wondered how the embassy came up with the idea to hand over just 80 doses? “They legit had to open a flat, count out 80 (or 115), then put the rest back into cold storage. Unbelievable,” said one Twitter user.
