When China largely had the global vaccine market to itself, Beijing often rejected the idea that there is a competition over the distribution of COVID-19 jabs to developing countries. But now that the U.S. is ramping up its vaccine deliveries around the world, that message is beginning to, well, evolve.
“China to become biggest global provider of COVID-19 vaccines,” declared a recent headline on Global Times followed by a reminder on Twitter by Chinese diplomat Zhang Heqin that “the number of vaccines provided by China is equal to the total of the G7.”
